Carbon Policy
In line with recent environmental actions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), including the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative, the Middle East Green Initiative and the Solar and Wind Power Plants, Saudi Arabia has announced that it will reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 in the framework of the Vision 2030, in the response to Climate Change.
In compliance with the Net-Zero Carbon Vision, Dammam Airports Company (DACO) is committed to mapping all sources of carbon emissions, structuring a carbon footprint, and reducing its carbon emissions.
The reduction will require an effective development of the Environmental Management System and active monitoring of energy consumption and carbon emissions using instruments and technologies such as:
• ISO14001 version: 2015 Environmental Management System.
• Limiting energy usage and emissions from transportation (encouraging walking, using bicycles or public transport, using low-energy vehicles), as well as from buildings, equipment, and operations.
• Obtaining electricity and other forms of energy from low or zerocarbon energy sources.
• Electrification: using electrical energy, ideally from non-emitting sources, rather than combustion. For example, in transportation (e.g., electric vehicles and electric trains) and heating (e.g., heat pumps and electric heating).
• Solar power, wind power, geothermal and hydropower are the energy sources with the lowest life-cycle emissions.
